Description:
We are hiring for our client, a leading manufacturer within the construction materials sector, who are seeking to appoint a Senior Automation / Controls Engineer to join their technical engineering team based in Drogheda, Co. Louth. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Ireland’s most established and respected industrial operations, where you’ll be responsible for maintaining and developing advanced control systems that support the plant’s continuous production processes. The successful Automation / Controls Engineer will play a key role in optimising system performance, implementing upgrades, and supporting site-wide automation initiatives using Siemens PCS7 and associated technologies.

The Role:
• Take full responsibility for the Siemens PCS7 central control system, ensuring it operates efficiently and effectively across all plant operations.
• Act as Network Owner, managing servers, control system software, and communication systems.
• Design, develop, and program software for plant projects and system modifications.
• Undertake software modifications, troubleshooting, and PID loop tuning to optimise control performance.
• Support engineers with technical expertise on control system issues.
• Commission and signal-check control systems for new projects and modifications.
• Maintain operator stations and plant visualisation software, including upgrades and version control.
• Coordinate software uploads and liaise with control system suppliers’ engineers to implement best practices.
The Person:
• Degree or equivalent qualification in a technical engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on industrial experience in control systems or automation.
• Proven experience with Siemens PCS7, Step 7, Simatic Manager, and WinCC.
• Skilled in PLC programming languages such as CFC, FBD, and STL.
• Strong understanding of Windows operating systems, security, and network configuration.
• Exposure to SQL and at least one high-level programming language.
• Awareness of OT cyber security practices and system archiving/restoration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical teams.
