Chemistry Technician (12 Month FTC)
Co. Antrim
£39,000 to £42,000

An excellent opportunity for a Chemistry Technician to join a leading power generation organisation on a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will support plant chemistry operations across two major generating sites, ensuring compliance, safety and operational efficiency.

The Role:

  • Day-to-day and long-term management of boiler and cooling water chemistry including sampling, laboratory analysis, logging system variables and interpreting results.
  • Manage chemical inventory including ordering, storage, usage control and disposal.
  • Maintain and manage COSHH records, providing guidance across departments.
  • Act as Selected Person (Atmosphere) under Safety Rules including confined space monitoring and reporting.
  • Monitor and manage Water Treatment Plants (RO, EDI, Ion Exchange etc.) ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Support chemical cleaning and preservation of membrane and filtration systems.
  • Sampling and analysis of fuel, lubricating and transformer oils, managing records and recommending corrective actions.
  • Calibrate and verify inline, portable and laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory standards including housekeeping, reagent preparation and stock control.
  • Identify site faults, complete investigations, Risk Assessments and Method Statements as required.
  • Supervise contractors and issue permits under Safety Rules.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and liaise with regulatory bodies
  • Contribute to chemistry-related projects, outage planning and departmental budgeting
  • Extensive use of SAP including work orders, purchasing and inventory management.

 

The Person:

  • Third level qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline.
  • Recognised Health & Safety or Environmental qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA).
  • Strong working knowledge of water treatment technologies including RO/DI and demineralised water production.
  • Experience with laboratory practices and environmental sampling.
