Job Title: HVAC Commissioning Technician
Location: County Louth
Reports To: Commissioning Manager/Project Manager
Job Purpose:
The HVAC Commissioning Technician is responsible for the start-up, testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with design intent. This role requires technical expertise in HVAC equipment, an understanding of mechanical systems, and the ability to troubleshoot, document findings, and provide solutions for efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commissioning and Testing: Perform HVAC system start-up and commissioning activities, including testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of heating, cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- System Optimization: Ensure that HVAC systems are optimized for energy efficiency and performance. This includes calibrating controls, adjusting airflows, and verifying system parameters against design requirements.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Identify and resolve issues with HVAC equipment during the commissioning process, including analyzing data from control systems, sensors, and mechanical components.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, documenting testing procedures, results, and any corrective actions taken. Maintain up-to-date records of system performance and compliance with standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure HVAC systems meet project specifications and client expectations.
- Compliance: Ensure all commissioning activities meet relevant safety, environmental, and industry standards, including ASHRAE, LEED, and other applicable codes.
- Client Training: Provide end-user training on HVAC system operations, including control systems, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Field Coordination: Collaborate with installation teams to coordinate start-up and commissioning schedules, identify potential delays, and resolve installation-related issues.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in HVAC or related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as NEBB, AABC, or TABB certification in testing, adjusting, and balancing (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in HVAC system commissioning, testing, and balancing.
- Strong experience with commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, VAV (Variable Air Volume) systems, AHUs (Air Handling Units), and control systems.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and automated control systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Strong knowledge of airflow measurement instruments (e.g., anemometers, manometers) and TAB procedures.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC control systems (e.g., DDC systems, PLC systems).
- Proficient in using software for data analysis and reporting (e.g., MS Office, BMS software).

- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
