Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Location: County Antrim
Department: Manufacturing / Operations
Reports to: Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves analyzing production workflows, troubleshooting issues, and developing solutions to streamline manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and supply chain, to ensure products meet quality standards and are manufactured efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Development and Optimization

    • Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes to enhance productivity and product quality.
    • Conduct time studies and process flow analysis to identify areas for process improvements.
    • Implement Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.

 

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

    • Provide technical support to production teams to resolve issues impacting quality, safety, or efficiency.
    • Investigate production problems and implement corrective actions to address root causes.
    • Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues and document corrective actions.

 

Quality Assurance and Compliance

    • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure compliance with quality standards, such as ISO or industry-specific certifications.
    • Support the development and implementation of quality control procedures for manufacturing processes.
    • Conduct inspections and audits to ensure production processes meet quality and safety standards.

 

Cost and Resource Management

    • Evaluate manufacturing costs and identify opportunities to reduce production costs without compromising quality.
    • Recommend and implement cost-effective methods, materials, and equipment.
    • Participate in budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing operations.

 

Documentation and Reporting

    • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
    • Prepare reports on process performance, productivity, and efficiency for management review.
    • Monitor and document key metrics (KPIs) related to production efficiency, quality, and cost.

 

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

    • Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with safety and environmental regulations.
    • Identify potential safety risks and work to mitigate hazards in the production environment.
    • Train staff on safety protocols and conduct regular safety audits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering or similar role in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and familiarity with production planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt).
  • Experience with automated manufacturing systems and robotics.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and other quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing.
